[edit] Overview

Aurora is a software application for creating and running animated light displays. It consists of a sequence editor for creating, editing, and visualizing animated light sequences and a show scheduler for creating shows consisting of groups of sequences. These two applications, Aurora Sequencer and Borealis Scheduler, are collectively referred to as Aurora. (screenshots)

Aurora came into existence in late 2006 as a workaround to a newly released software suite to control light displays. Users reported lag times upwards of 30 seconds between songs while sequence files were loaded and parsed. The need to have a more streamlined software application to run the displays prompted Michael Miller to create a small application to pre-process the sequence files to put them in a raw form that could communicate directly with the light controller board.

Throughout 2007, he continued development of the application to include an editor in addition to the scheduler. The goal was to provide a solution that would require as little computer resources as possible (CPU, memory footprint) and perform on nearly any modern PC. Aurora was first introduced to a small group of beta testers in October 2007. The software is currently fairly stable and feedback has been very positive. Editing in Aurora has been reported to be easier and much quicker. Public release is currently targeted for late 2007 / early 2008. Also the best writing help!
